Profiling our family

Right now, that is easy stressed. We are in the middle of buying a house and many things have gone wrong, so it has put us behind in school. We are not having fun right now as 80% of our belongings are packed in boxes, which means that we can’t do anything fun until we get into our house. But before we can unpack we have deep cleaning, priming and painting to do.

We are a family of 6, 3 sons and a daughter, mom and dad. I do have older children from a previous marriage, that I homeschooled for almost 7 years.

Our oldest is Noah, aka the ark at 10 yrs. old. He is a history buff already, and possibly a budding Lutheran Pastor. He has a heart for the Lord, that is awesome. He likes studying classical artists and math as well as a bit of science. He is dyslexic and that really hampers him, while  he is improving  I don’t  think that we are having fun at the moment. I am working on next year’s curriculum and he has said that he likes most of what we are using this year so that is a huge plus. I think it is the amount of daily lang. arts stuff that is bogging us down. I need to figure out what I can cut out but still keep moving forward in his reading skills. We are switching from Sonlights LA to AOP Lifepacs as I had used them with my older children and liked them. Sonlights LA is just too much for him right now. Noah will be on the swim team this year and that excite us. He loves swimming and passed all 6 levels of swim lessons in a mere 3 years. He is also going to camp with our church youth again this year with our Pastor.

My next son is Adrien who is 7. He has a sensory integration issue. That makes life a bit difficult at times. He has trouble focusing if too much is going on around him. Trying to get him to repeat anything out loud to to answer questions is another tough issue we have. He likes handwriting, coloring and writing. He will take swim lessons again this year, it will be his 3 rd. year. he is stuck in level 4. I hope he gets out of that level this year. We aren’t making too many changes with his curriculum this coming year. Just trying to get him to get it done so he can do some fun stuff.

Our Princess is up at 5 years old. She loves school. She begs to do ‘homework’ every day and will be mostly finished by this time next week. I can’t order next years books until at least May. I will read to her from numerous SL books in the meantime. I hope she always stays this way. She will take swim lesson for the first time this summer.  I’m hoping that since we are moving to a neighboring suburb that the kids can do VBS this year at my church since the past 3 years we have been unable to because of swim lessons which take priority.

Last but not least is our almost 3 year old Caedmon James. He is very smart but lots of trouble at the moment. He is always bothering his siblings and loves pirates and scooby do. We do read to him and he does sit for a bit of time but we aren’t planning on doing too much with him until at least after the new year of 2009. He is very active and I’m not thinking he will sit for very long at the moment. So coloring and reading will have to suffice.

As for the husband, he works a great deal at the moment we are hoping to change that once we are in the house. He is our biggest fan and support for homeschooling. The husband is also dyslexic and has some sort of LD in addition to. He does read to the little ones and plays games with them giving me a much needed break at times.

I’m a homeschooling mom that has been called by the Lord to return to college. Great story there, I think it is posted at my regular blog under college. I am taking 2 classes this semester, Ethics and Art Appreciation, getting A’s so far in both but dislike both classes for differing reasons. I would like to take ASL this summer if we can get settled in enough time. I have to take a lang. for my bachelor’s and chose ASL as the best of the lot. Ok, that is enough about me. I need to eat and find a way to destress.
